THE PRODUCTION OF MEDALS BY THE NATIONAL MINT (IETA)

The Banknote Printing Works of the Bank of Greece (IETA), in addition to printing banknotes and minting coins, is also involved in the production of commemorative/anniversary coins and medals. These are issued within the framework of the Monetary Programs of the Hellenic Ministry of Finance, as well as on behalf of various entities. The latter include public bodies, local government authorities, and third-party organisations.

The themes of these collectible medals cover a wide range of historical, cultural and athletic events, renowned individuals, works of art, social values, economic phenomena, and more. The medals themselves serve as vehicles for preserving collective memory, identity and cultural heritage, while also highlighting the ideological, sociopolitical, and technological background of their time.
