THE COMMEMORATIVE/ ANNIVERSARY MEDALS OF THE NUMISMATIC MUSEUM
Since 2003, and almost every two years, the Numismatic Museum, in collaboration with the
National Mint, issues copper-nickel commemorative/anniversary medals. The designs
selected are generally related to the themes of the European Heritage Days or with significant anniversaries.
The obverse features depictions from ancient Greek, Roman, Byzantine, and modern coins in
free or in faithful rendering. The reverse, which is common to all medals, depicts the Iliou Melathron, the residence of Heinrich Schliemann, and the anthemion, emblem of the
National Mint since 1980.
